5.0 Star out of 5 - Insightful commentary on Revelation
October 1, 2019

Revelation: Mature Look by Maurice A. Williams is a Biblical commentary on the book of Revelation. The author, Williams, had written a commentary on Revelation about 30 years prior to this; however this one has his updated views and musings. He writes from a Roman Catholic perspective, with a combination of preterist and futurist views, with the preterist views being more dominant.

Williams tries to be as historically accurate as he can in his writing. He admits where the archaeological evidence is weak with where they are some conflicts in that record. He attempts to resolve some of those conflicts in a way I found rather straight-forward, concise, easy to understand, and rang true to me. He doesn’t just throw 5 arguments at the reader and hopes one sticks, I felt like he picked his argument and stuck with it, and I liked that better than other commentaries where they just drown the reader in too much information.

Williams also tries to help the reader see the big picture of where Satan may fall into a handful of very important stories to some of the meta-narrative / overarching themes found in the Bible. He presents these views in a plausible manner, rather than being whimsical and outlandish. I felt he made a compelling case.

Williams has a clean and neat ordering to his book. The chapters are clearly laid out, and easy to manage. So say if you were only curious about certain sections of Revelation, it’s easier to jump around at your leisure.

I recommend this book to anyone wanting to read more on Revelation. As a Protestant I don’t share the authors Catholic leanings, but I got a lot out of his book and think anyone wanting to learn more about Revelation will to.
