MY LAST DAY

My friend, how would you act today,
Perchance it be your last?
I wonder what I'd do or say,
Heard I the trumpet blast.

Would you renounce all selfish strife;
As you wish others would?
I hope I'd look beyond this life
And act the way I should.

That day, my friend, I'd strive to do
My humble, very best;
Commit not one more sin to rue
Before I'm laid to rest.
